Marimba Restaurant, is situated in the Cape Town International Convention Centre, on the historic Heerengracht, between the downtown area and the V&A Waterfront. Our restaurant and function venue take the marimba theme to new levels. The award winning décor celebrates the African Origin and Global Energy of the Marimba.. Invented in Africa thousands of years ago, the traditional wooden African xylophone – the Marimba- is today found on all seven continents in traditional and modern forms Vibraphones, xylophones and more. Marimba shapes and images are reflected in stone, wood and steel furnishings and décor at Marimba Restaurant and Cigar Bar. The piece de resistance is the marimba suspended from the ceiling – reputed to be the largest marimba on this planet.

Our venue comprises a uniquely decorated restaurant, outdoor terrace, sexy cigar bar (the only indoor smoking facility in the CTICC) and an indoor gallery/cafe area in the CTICC concourse.
Our seated restaurant capacity (with a stage and dance floor) is 200 to 220 pax but an additional 50 to 80 pax can be accommodated on our outdoor terrace which can be enclosed if needs be. Cocktail style we can accommodate up to 600 pax using all areas.
Our cigar bar can hold 50-80 pax and extra guests can flow out into our gallery/cafe area. Areas can be privatized or not.
Privatization will of course mean that you own the area in question for the night. You can then make speeches, have AV presentations, etc. Our usual restaurant privatization rate is R7,500 and this includes all decor, linen, a state of the art PA system, AV and a sound engineer/technician. This rate is negotiable based on pax numbers. The privatization rate is a flat rate irrespective of what time the function ends.
Non privatization will mean that other guests will share the area with you. The up side however is that no privatization fee is payable and a beautiful ambient African jazz band will play at no cost to your guests. The music is designed to complement and not overwhelm the Afro-chic dining experience and the band includes marimba maestro, Bongani Sotshononda on his custom built marimba. Bongani has played on 5 continents and performed at the 2009 Cape Town International Jazz festival.
For small groups often the best solution is to give you a semi private screened off area in the restaurant with speeches to be made in our gallery area over pre dinner drinks.
Our booking/payment terms simple:
Flexibility is however our 2nd name and we would thus attempt to adapt our menus and offering to suit your taste and budget and pull out all the stops to ensure that your function is a great success.

Our cigar bar can hold 50 - 80 pax and extra guests can flow out into our gallery/cafe area. Marimba Cigar Bar is the only smoking venue in CTICC.
