On designated nights, marimba maestro Bongani Sotshononda plays his custom built chromatic concert marimba -traditional, world music, jazz, ballads and other beautiful sounds to seduce the senses of restaurant diners. Marimba’s music includes the finest Congolese.

Mozambique and South African musicians, embellishing your dining experience with sophisticated African and Worlds music offerings. Hear African hits from Kenya to Cape Town, African standards … along with African interpretations of songs from Broadway and the Great American Songbook – always creating a great mood and never overwhelming your culinary enjoyment and conversation.

Entertainment

Should you privatize, from an entertainment perspective, the following are some options available at extra cost:

Interactive Drum Session:

Usually an hour long, although 30 or 45 minute sessions can be done if there are time constraints. Each guest gets a drum and the drumming team facilitates this uplifting, inspiring & motivating experience.

Traditional African Marimba And Percussion Band With Traditional African Dancers:

To welcome the guests when they arrive. The performance would be for 30 minutes.

An African Band:

The music would initially be laid back and ambient designed not to overpower the conversation and the tempo and volume could be upped later in the evening should you require the guests to dance. The genre would be traditional and contemporary African and jazz which would complement Marimba’s Afro-chic dining experience and decor. The musicians would play 3 sets of 45 minutes each (with reasonable breaks).

The following are your options:

A trio (chromatic marimba, bass and keyboards).

A quartet (chromatic marimba, bass, keyboards and female vocals).

A 5 piece band (chromatic marimba, bass, keyboards, female vocals and percussion/drums). This would be ideal if you are wanting the guests to get up and dance.

All the bands would be led by marimba maestro, Bongani Sothshononda on his custom made marimba. Bongani has played on 5 continents and this year performed at the Cape Town International Jazz festival and directed the highly acclaimed Marimba Extravaganza at Artscape.

Interactive Gumboot Dance Sessions:

Normally an hour long and facilitated by a dynamic dance team.

Fresh Gumboots are provided for both men & women and the sessions are exhilarating & great fun. All guests need to bring is a pair of thick socks.

Boomwhacker:

Sessions are a wonderful musical experience. They are brightly coloured plastic tubes that are tuned by length to musical notes. It is a great way to expand the musicality of the guests. Boom Whackers are a wonderful follow-on from drumming as they introduce melody. When hit on the hand, each colour.

BoomWhacker produces a different tone, with five different tones in total. Groups are split up according to the colour of the BoomWhacker, and within a few minutes, the group will be making music.

Sound Journeys:

Are unique and inspired. Various instruments like flute, didgeridoo, singing bowls, pipes & voice are used in this session designed to calm & to uplift the participants.

Fire Dancers:

Will delight the delegates with their agility & awesome ability. Using fire sticks or Poi they create a visual feast. They can be accompanied by drummers or can perform to recorded music.
