
Music Makers, a division of Marimba Restaurant, Music & Events, has a history spanning several decades which includes devising and producing festivals including any genre you can think of.
Our track record of more than 5000 plus nights of great live music positions us to tailor live music for any event or function. - from solo performer to symphony – for conventions, product launches, corporate and private functions held in Marimba Restaurant, within the CTICC or anywhere in Cape Town and South Africa.
We manage all performances on a hands - on basis to ensure the performance meets your best expectations and to make decisions about placing the band, controlling the performance (volume, repertoire, breaks at suitable times etc).
Marimba maestro Bongani Sotshononda leads his African Rhythm Band through a play list of African hits made famous by Makeba, Masekela, Ibrahim and other African stars. The blend of marimba and contemporary western instruments produces a sophisticated fusion highlighting Africa by Night. The band incorporates, Marimba, vocals, guitar, piano, drums/percussion, and more.
Suitable for all parties with an African theme, gala dinners, cocktail functions and year end events. Very danceable and able to get all events lifted to a new height.

2,3 and 4 piece African bands (comprising a combination of marimba, bass, keyboards, vocals and horn) suitable for cocktail parties, receptions, weddings or conference registration. Led by the internationally renowned Bongani Sotshononda.
These bands will perform in the genres of African traditional, African contemporary and jazz and are able to play laid-back and ambient music and can up the tempo, if neccesary, to create a sense of occasion.

James Frank and the Sticky Triggers: This awesome 12-piece band (comprising 3 front vocalists, trumpet, alto and tenor saxophone, trombone, piano, bass, drums, guitar and percussion) specialise in energetic dance music incorporating American Big Band, Swing and Jive, South African Sophiatown jazz, African and Cuban salsa music. Rates on request.
This amazing 8-piece African band (comprising 2 vocalists, piano, bass, drums, sax, guitar and drums) features Mozambican, South African, Argentinian and Norwegian musicians. Their repertoire includes African, Latin American and popular dance numbers. Rates on request.
A wonderful 5-piece international band (comprising keyboards, electric bass, guitar, drums and vocals). The band's repertoire includes background, jazz, Latin, African, popular covers and disco music. Rates on request.
2 and 3 piece classical duos (comprising a combination of guitar, clarinet, flute, violin, harp, double bass and cello) suitable for cocktail parties, receptions, weddings or conference registration.

Conducted by Prof Mike Campbell, the Marimban Big Band plays a selection of African, American and Latin Big Band classics. Marimba maestro Bongani Sotshononda adds unique African flavourings to our Big Band nights. A unique show to add a touch of class and enhance any special Evening. Vocalist, Dr John Mostert is the host and the dynamic Boulevard Blues Band take you on a journey of Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, Clapton-inspired blues and more. Enjoy the unique fusion between Marimba's resident marimba player, Bongani Sotshononda and the Blues Men producing a new, authentic and exciting dimension to the blues.

Marimba Productions has a history spanning back to 1988 and the start of the Grahamstown Jazz Festival with organisation and planning of musical events and special productions. Under the close direction of Mr Henry Shields we are able to produce events to remember. For that special opening ceremony, a show during gala dinners, or special events Marimba Productions can create it for you.
Sound: Due to the specifics required for each group we supply our own sound technician to ensure a perfectly sound evening. Rates are dependant on band requirements. All rates are exclusive of sound equipment.
Equipment: All musicians bring their own instruments, however our sound technician will advise on the sound equipment required to be hired in at additional cost. (excluding functions within Marimba Restaurant)
Piano: We have a Yamaha C3 Grand Piano in the restaurant which is available for hire dependant on availability. Costs available on request.
Play Time: Rates quoted are based on three sets of 45 minutes each.
Rates: Rates are subject to change and can only be confirmed upon booking. Reduced rates do not apply for shorter play time. Additional costs will be incurred for extra play time at ½ the total quoted rate per hour.
Catering: All bands require a meal and soft drinks at cost to client. (excluding within the Marimba restaurant)
